WikiProject Portals is a project that was formed to better organize information in articles related to Portals. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there. At present, there are 137 featured portals, of a total of 580 portals on Wikipedia.

This WikiProject has been created in order to better organise portals and related templates, so as to allow better integration and co-ordination between portal topic areas and ensure any particular Portal does not become messy, forgotten or unnoticed.

An archived method for proposing portals can be found at Portal/Proposals. Currently, there is no process for the proposal and approval of new portals. If you want to create a new portal, see the Portal page and participate in the discussions at Portal talk. You may also talk about your idea for a new portal at this project's talk page. We'll be happy to review your idea and help out where we can.

2. Discuss and settle upon ways of linking portals of related topics.
3. Discuss already created portals and determine their usability, readability, and worth.
4. Discuss, create and harmonise templates and portal boxes.
5. Help critique and improve Featured portal candidates.
6. Help WikiProject portal dynamics with coordination and integration.

WikiProject Council would like to inform all Wikipedians that it may be advantageous to: Join WikiProjects of your field of knowledge or interest. This will provide you with a forum in which to exchange opinions, identify common goals with respect to articles under that topic, and coordinate opportunities to share your knowledge. You may also join Maintenance WikiProjects, where the focus is on the organization and functioning of Wikipedia in general. Beware of overloading yourself with WikiProject memberships, however. Keep involved in a handful of WikiProjects to which you can actively and assiduously contribute, and always be willing to help any WikiProject, when you see an opportunity, regardless of membership.
