The Prodigal is a 1955 epic biblical film made by MGM. It was directed by Richard Thorpe and produced by Charles Schnee, from a screenplay by Maurice Zimm adapted by Joseph Breen and Samuel James Larsen from the Luke New Testament story of the selfish son who leaves his family in search of riches. The music score was by Bronislau Kaper and the cinematography by Joseph Ruttenberg.

The film stars Lana Turner, Edmund Purdom, Louis Calhern, James Mitchell, Joseph Wiseman, Cecil Kellaway, and Walter Hampden. The film introduced the dancer Taina Elg in her first film appearance.

Spoofed by MAD Magazine in 1955 as "The Prodigious".
