Steve Berry (born April 4, 1963) is an English former professional footballer. He was born in Liverpool and currently resides in France.
Berry began his professional career with Portsmouth making his debut at the age of eighteen. He played 28 times, scoring twice in the 1981-82 season, but after the arrival of Bobby Campbell as manager, youth was not recognised, and he played rarely in the Portsmouth side. He joined Aldershot on loan in March 1984 and moved to First Division Sunderland on a free transfer in July 1984.
Aged 21, he made his Sunderland debut on August 25, 1984 in a 3-1 win at home to Southampton, making 46 league and cup appearances including the League Cup Final at Wembley. Unfortunately, later that season Sunderland were relegated. He found himself out of favour after the arrival of Lawrie McMenemy as manager. He played just one game early the following season, and with Sunderland spiralling towards the third division under the new managers reign, he was transferred to Newport County in December 1985.
He subsequently moved to Swindon Town, helping them gain promotion to the 2nd Division before moving again in October 1987 to Aldershot in exchange for Bobby Barnes, who he would later play alongside at Northampton Town. The Cobblers paid a reported £45,000 fee to sign Berry on a three year contract. He played well in excess of a hundred games for the Northamptonshire outfit before later playing in Hong Kong for Instant-Dict and English non-league sides Kettering Town, Stevenage Borough, Rushden & Diamonds and Bedford Town. During his career in the football league, both home and abroad, Berry amassed over eight hundred league and cup appearances.
In August 2005, at the age of 42, Berry joined Cogenhoe United as a player and helped them in their historic FA Cup run.
Steve Berry left England early in 2006 and transferred to Paris, continuing his work for Michael Page International. In his role as Senior Executive Associate, he specialised in International Executive Search and Selection. In 2008 be joined the HR division of Synovate as Global Director of Recruitment. Synovate are a global Market Research Agency, a subsidiary of the Aegis Group.
