Phil Wilson (born May 31st 1959) is a British Labour Party politician who was elected Member of Parliament for the Sedgefield constituency on 19 July 2007.[1] The by-election was held following the resignation of former Prime Minister and member for Sedgefield, Tony Blair.[2][3]
The son of a Fishburn colliery worker, Wilson has lived in Sedgefield all of his life.[3] After attending Trimdon Secondary Modern and Sedgefield Comprehensive School, Wilson became a shop assistant before moving on to be a clerical worker in the civil service where he was a lay-trade union official.[3] Wilson has also worked as a gambling lobbyist.[4] Wilson lives in the constituency in Trimdon with his partner Margaret where he runs a public relations firm.[2]
Wilson is known for being one of the "Famous Five", a group of local Labour Party members who selected a young Tony Blair as the Labour candidate for Sedgefield for the 1983 election.[2]
