Ningbo Bird

Ningbo Bird is a Chinese manufacturer of mobile phones. The company was established in 1992 in Fenghua and, in 1997, became China’s largest pager manufacturer. Ningbo Bird started manufacturing mobile phones in 1999. It was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange the next year. Seeking to expand into international markets, BIRD International was established in Hong Kong in 2003.
Bird is now the leading mobile phone manufacturer in China, employing over 10,000 people. Its phones are purchased by mobile operators worldwide, including Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, TIM, Telcel, Smart Communications, Airtel, and Vivo. The most successful model is the V10, with cumulative sales of over three million units. Bird’s world market share was estimated at about 2% in 2004 by IC Insights.
