The Mayor of Taipei City was an appointed position from Taipei's conversion to a centrally-administered municipality in 1967, until the first public election held in 1994. The position is of a four-year term.
Presidents Lee Teng-hui, Chen Shui-bian and current incumbent Ma Ying-jeou have all held this position prior to being elected President.
The incumbent mayor is Hau Lung-pin.
