Lauvøylandet
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lauvøylandet is a small island outside Sandnessjøen in northern Norway. The island is often called called Rødøya, but that is not correct. Rødyøa is an island much further north. The location of the famous rock carving lies in an area called "Røøya" and therefore people may have presumed it to be local dialect for "Rødøya" (Red-island). It is most famous for having a 4000 year old rock carving portraying a man skiing. This is the oldest picture in the world of someone using skis.
