James Ashley Constable (born 4 October 1984) is an English footballer who plays for Oxford United as a striker.
[edit] Career
Constable was born in Malmesbury, England and began his career at Cirencester Town, but signed for Walsall in November 2005. After two months on loan at Kidderminster, he moved to Harriers on a permanent deal on 31 January 2007. In the 2007 FA Trophy final Constable scored the first and second ever goals for an English club at the new Wembley Stadium, although his efforts were in vain as Kidderminster lost 3-2 to Stevenage Borough.
Constable transferred to League Two club Shrewsbury Town on 31 January 2008, transfer deadline day, along with his Harriers teammate Scott Bevan.[3] He made his debut on 2 February 2008, coming on as a substitute in the home match versus Lincoln City. A week later, Constable scored his first goal for Shrewsbury, a late equaliser against Brentford. He made his full debut on 12 February 2008, scoring twice as his team came back from 3–0 down to draw 3–3 at home to Milton Keynes Dons.
On 8 July 2008 Constable returned to the Conference on a season long loan with Oxford United. Oxford announced he had agreed a permanent deal with the club in April 2009,[4] but this was denied by Shrewsbury.[5] The transfer eventually took place on 28 April, with Constable signing a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.[6]
