Changhua City

Changhua City (traditional Chinese: 彰化市; pinyin: Zhānghuà Shì; Wade-Giles: Chang-hua Shih; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Chiong-hòa-Chhī) is the county seat of Changhua County in Taiwan. At one time an activity area of the Babuza Taiwanese aborigines, its name derives from the aboriginal word Poasoa (Han characters: 半線; Taiwanese: Pòaⁿ-sòaⁿ).
Changhua City is best known for its large statue of Buddha. At 26 meters tall, the seated giant is on top of Bagua Mountain, the hill that flanks the city, and can be seen on a clear day from almost anywhere in the city. The main walkway up to the giant is lined with many statues of characters from Chinese mythology. Another site of interest is the oldest Confucius temple in Taiwan, though it recently (2006) sustained some fire damage.

On 25 May 2002 China Airlines Flight 611 broke into pieces in mid-air. Parts of the plane landed in Changhua..[1][2]
