The term archtreasurer refers to a chief treasurer. Commonly, it is specifically used for the great treasurer of the Holy Roman Empire. This office was erected with the 8th Electorate, in favor of the Elector Palatine, who had lost his former electorate, which was given to the Duke of Bavaria, by the emperor Ferdinand II, who took it away from Frederick V.
