[edit] Career

[edit] Leicester City

King was a product of the Leicester City youth academy, having joined after being released by Chelsea in 2004 when he was just 15 years old.[1] He was given a squad number for the 2006–07 season.[3] During that season, King scored eight goals in 21 appearances, which saw the Leicester academy side win the FA Premier League Group B.[4]

King was offered his first professional contract with Leicester on 5 May 2007.[5] He also went on trial with York City at the end of the 2006–07 season,[4] but turned down a possible loan move to the club.[6]

King made his senior debut in a 0–0 draw against Wolves on 2 October 2007,[7] scoring his first ever goal with an impressive 35-yard shot in a 2–1 defeat to Southampton on 1 December.[8] He made a total of eleven league appearances as Leicester were relegated at the end of the 2007-08 season.

King's impressive start the following season earned him a new three-year contract on 21 August 2008.[1] He scored his first goal of the season in a 3-2 League Cup defeat to Fulham on August 27, scoring from 18 yards.[9] He went on to score nine league goals to help Leicester secure their promotion as champions of League One. His performances earned him the club's young player of the season award on April 28, 2009. He was also nominated for players' player of the season and player of the season awards, but lost out to teammates Matty Fryatt and Steve Howard.[10] King dedicated his award to captain Stephen Clemence, who missed the entire season through injury.[11]

[edit] International

King is a former Wales U19 international and currently plays for the under-21, receiving his first call-up on 10 October 2007.[12] He scored his first goal in a 5-1 Euro 2011 Championship qualifying win over Luxembourg U21 on 31 March 2009.[13]

On May 22, 2009 King received his first call up to the senior Wales squad when he was named in John Toshack's squad for the friendly match against Estonia.[14][15] King made his full international debut for Wales as a second half substitute, replacing Ched Evans in the 89th minute as Wales beat Estonia 1–0.[16]
