Altrincham and Sale West is a parliamentary constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

[edit] Boundaries
The constituency is one of three covering the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford. It covers the south of the borough, covering the town of Altrincham and the west of Sale. It comprises the Altrincham, Bowdon, Broadheath, Hale, Mersey St. Mary's, St. Martin's, Timperley and Village wards of Trafford council.
The constituency contains some very affluent areas.

Following their review of parliamentary representation in Greater Manchester, the Boundary Commission for England has made minor alterations to the existing Altrincham and Sale West seat, with the creation of a seat with the following electoral wards:
- Altrincham, Ashton upon Mersey, Bowdon, Broadheath, Hale Barns, Hale Central, St Mary’s, Timperley, and Village

The Altrincham and Sale constituency was created in 1945 from the larger constituency of Altrincham. In 1997, most of the constituency was incorporated into the newly created Altrincham and Sale West Constituency with a smaller area forming part of Wythenshawe and Sale East.
The seat has always elected a Conservative member. From 1945, it was represented by Frederick Erroll, a cabinet minister in Harold Macmillan's government, who was raised to the peerage in 1964. The ensuing by-election (held in 1965) was won by Anthony Barber, who served as Edward Heath's Chancellor of the Exchequer. Barber also entered the House of Lords, and at the October 1974 general election was succeeded by Fergus Montgomery, later Sir Fergus Montgomery. Montgomery held the seat until he retired in 1997. After the 1997 boundary changes, the constituency was taken by Graham Brady, who has held the seat since then. Since the 2001 election, it has been the only Conservative-held seat in Greater Manchester.
