From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alex Calvo-Garcia (born 1 January 1972 in Ordizia, Spain) is a retired professional footballer, who was best remembered for his time as a midfielder for Scunthorpe United. On 29 May 1999, it was his goal in the play-off final against Leyton Orient that secured Scunthorpe promotion to the then-titled Second Division.
He joined Scunthorpe from SD Eibar in 1996. In his time with the club, he made 233 appearances and scored 32 goals.
Following a testimonial game, called the Alex Calvo-Garcia Unity Match, which featured many prolific international footballers[1], he retired from football and returned to his native Spain at the end of the 2003-2004 season.
He continues to play football at an amateur level[2], and was part of the Spain squad which won the European Mountain Village Championship in Switzerland, a tournament which was held prior to Euro 2008.
